Park Avenue cds

So Im Orlando, Fl on business (don't I sound big time). Anyway. I found myself wandering the streets (by wandering I mean driving around haphazardly) to find a copy of the new Long Winters Cd that was released yesterday. I found a Barnes and Noble and entered. They were having this dramatic performance of Harry Potter for a bunch of kids at what Im guessing was a birthday party. Anyway, at no surprise to me, they did not have the CD. But the guy at the counter seemed pretty cool so I asked if there was an independent record store nearby and he told me about park avenue cds. They are a great little record store. They had a dj playing great music when I walked in and they had about 15-20 people in the store on a Wednesday night in the summer. Pretty impressive for something (independent record stores) that we sometimes view as fading away. If was so inspiring to see an independent record store thriving. I will be heading back tomorrow to just be in there while I'm in Orlando. Cash you gotta model Moon Colony after these guys. And let me pubically say that was Cash and Co are doing with their store is simply amazing for Jacksonville. I just wish Jacksonville was more supportive of this type of thing. I guess that's the south for you.

If you are wondering I bought:
The Long Winters--Putting the Days to Bed
Band of Horses--Everything All the Time
Cursive--Dorthy at 40 (7")
The Subways--Young for Eternity (It's for Aiden and explain soon)
They also gave me two free samplers. Smack 2006 (includes Built to Spill, Regina Spektor, Dinosaur Jr., Secret Machines, and more) and The International Noise Conspiracy (live EP).

So I am feeling the love right now and my hope in independent record stores was renewed. My laptop is being a pain right now and I can't upload music to ezarchive but I will get some MP3s up for you when I get home.

And as DP announced, I turn 30 next Saturday. Send some good vibes my way because I am feeling very old.

How is the new Long Winters?

Thanks for showing love to the indie record store(s). Gotta spread the word, but it can't stop at the record store. Extend that same indie love to the Pharmacy, Restaurants, Hardware stores, Family farms, etc! I have my "Support Local Small Business" buttons I sell and proudly wear (http://www.supportlocalsmallbusiness.com). Supporting the people in our community whose passion is on display every day in their place of work has never been more vital. Ok, stepping off the soapbox...

Good on Jeff - the local places are always what distinguish places. I have a feeling our city motto of "Keep Austin Weird" also tends to support the idea that local is good.

Have a great time in Orlando...

Yeah Im all about supporting local stores. My passion is music so my favorite places to support are local record stores. I found another one yesterday afternoon. A record shop called East West. They had the smell of an old record shop. That smell was enough to make me hang out for an hour or so. Nice guy who runs the place over there too. I also went back to Park Avenue and bought the Pedro the Lion tour only ep 04. (the one with the radiohead and cat power covers) and the acoustic My Morning Jacket EP.

Buy Pedro the Lion - Control. I don't care if you have to go to Walmart to get it.

Had to endorse the independents all around- put your money where your house is. If anyone's up for it, there a great indy film called "Independent America" out there- two people travel across the US shopping indy only (this includes opting for county roads instead of interstates) Needless to say, it's a rough ride to avoid The Man. Do you think "MAKE Jax Weird" would fly?

I prefer the spelling "Indie" to "Indy". Or better yet, "ND". 2006 year of the abbreviation

correction: 06 year o abbrev.

Cursive! D'you like Dorothy? Isn't it video game-like?

Rachelle-I'll check out that video soon. It sounds really interesting. Im still waiting to see what the bleep do we know. You'll have to ignore pooty down there who is more concerned with spelling than his indie (indy) stature.

Alina--I love the cursive. It is different for sure. I think your description of video gamey is quite accurate. Great job over there at both sides of the mouth we love that site.

And Jeff the Long Winters is just amazing. By far their best work to date. Very listenable and easy to get into. The first two tracks are the best.
